Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Gisenyi for a boat cruise at Lake Kivu
A guide will meet you at Kigali airport on the 1st day of the 4-day Nyirangongo hike and in Volcanoes National Park. The guide will greet you and interact with you so that you get to know each other. You will head for a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will go through the events of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, and you will also have a glimpse at the remains of those who engaged in the 1994 genocide, and the remains are kept at this place. You will then head to Gisenyi, and once you arrive at Gisenyi, you will head to a hotel and have lunch.
After lunch, you will be transferred to Lake Kivu, where you will conduct a boat cruise. Day 2 : Hike to Mount Nyiragongo
On the second day of the 4-day Nyiragongo hike and Volcanoes National Park safari, you will wake up and have an early morning breakfast at the hotel, and a guide will transfer you to the headquarters for a briefing about the hike to Mount Nyiragongo. You will set off with the guide for Kibati at 10 am with the guide to hike Mount Nyiragongo with your packed lunch and dinner. You will then hike for about 4 to 6 hours, depending on your fitness levels. You will come across some attractions, including wildlife species and vegetation types. You will also have a glance at the lava lake. After all these views, you will have a stopping point where you will camp for a night, and you will have your dinner before you sleep.
Day 3: Descending Mount Nyiragongo and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
While at Mount Nyiragongo, you will wake up on day 3 and have breakfast. You will prepare yourself after breakfast, and the guide will interact with you briefly, and you will then head for your journey back to the headquarters. You will descend Mount Nyiragongo, and this will take about 4 hours, as you will come across several attractions as you climb this mountain. Day 4: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Kigali airport
At the lodge in Volcanoes National Park, you will have an early morning breakfast, and you will head with the guide to the headquarters of the park at Kinigi, where you will be briefed about a gorilla trekking activity. You will be required to have a gorilla trekking permit before you set off for the trek. You will be accompanied by a guide, and you will embark on the gorilla trek. It will take you about 30 minutes to several hours while trekking to find the gorillas. The time you will spend trying to find the gorillas will depend on their location in the park, and you will have an hour to stay with these primates once you locate them. A group of a maximum of 8 individuals is the one permitted to meet a gorilla family. The one hour that will be given to you is the one you will use to take pictures and also gather information about the gorillas from both the guide and your findings. After the hour with the gorillas, you will be transferred to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will check out of the lodge, and you will depart with the guide to Kigali airport. You will have a stopover for souvenirs at Kimironko market, and you will also briefly interact with the locals that you will meet there.
