Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Bukavu, Congo
On Day One of your 3 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking Safari, your driver-guide will greet you upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. After a brief overview of the trip, you will be driven through the scenic route towards Cyangugu border (Rusizi I) to cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo. This includes what will be a fantastic drive through beautiful rolling hills and countryside in Rwanda where you can stop for brief photo opportunities along the way.
Once you have arrived at Bukavu town on the southern shores of Lake Kivu, you will check in to either your lodge or hotel and relax. After lunch, enjoy a relaxing afternoon with views of the lake; if time allows, you can also take in the sights of Bukavu while walking around town in the early evening to get a feel of local life and culture. Dinner will be served at your lodge before retiring for the night to prepare for the expedition the following day.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park
On the second day of your 3 Days Congo gorilla trekking safari, you will begin with a delicious breakfast at your lodge to energize you for the day to come in the forest. After breakfast, you will head to the park offices to register and receive a full briefing on Eastern Lowland Gorilla trekking. During your briefing, rangers will go over the dos and don’t of gorilla encounters, appropriate behavior around gorillas, and safety procedures for the trek.
You will be assigned a gorilla group to track and will be supported by an armed ranger guide for your safety during the trek. Trekking through the deep vegetation may take 30 minutes to 4 hours based on the location and movement of the gorillas. Throughout the trek, you can view other wildlife, including some forest monkeys, birds, and exotic plants.
When you have located the gorillas, you will be welcome to spend a full hour with the gorillas observing them in their natural habitat, and same sex interactions and behaviors. This will be a most memorable time for you as you will be able to photograph intimate moments with these critically endangered lowland gorillas.
After your hike, your guide will return you to your lodge where you will enjoy lunch, as well as rest from an exhilarating day of trekking, a once in a lifetime experience. While the rest of the afternoon is your own to relax, you may wish to investigate some walks around the lodge area, enjoy stunning views, or simply take some time to rest yourself and chat through your experience with the gorillas. Later in the evening, you will have dinner, and then prepare for the night to rest for the continuation of your travels.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali
On the last day of your 3 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking Safari, you will start your morning with a full breakfast at the lodge, check out, settle your dues, and pack. You will then head back to Rwanda, taking the same visible nice scenic route. You will cross the Cyangugu border and travel into Kigali, enjoying the scenic display along the way.
You would expect to be in Kigali city late in the afternoon, and at this point, you will stop for a late lunch at a smooth hotel. It will be a great time to reflect on your life-changing gorilla trekking experience and share photographs/stories with your guide. Following lunch, your driver-guide will then transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight, ending what will have been a perfect adventure tracking the Eastern Lowland Gorillas in the Congo for 3 days.
