10 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari: This is a 10-day Rwanda gorillas and wildlife safari that will enable you to visit 3 of the national parks in Rwanda. You will visit Nyungwe National Park for a canopy walk, chimpanzee trek, and a visit to the Gisakura tea estate. You will also visit Akagera National Park for game drives and a boat cruise, and you will conclude the journey with a visit to Volcanoes National Park for a gorilla trek, golden monkey trek, hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb, and a hike to Mount Bisoke. You will, at the end, be transferred to the airport for your flight.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali airport to a hotel in Kigali

On day one, our representative guide will pick you up from Kigali airport and take you for a city tour to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Rwanda Art Museum, and the Kandt House Museum with an en route lunch. You will be transferred to a hotel in Kigali after your city tour, and at this hotel, you will be provided dinner, and you will have your night’s rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park for a canopy walk

At the hotel in Kigali, you will have breakfast and check out. A guide will take you to Nyungwe National Park, and on your way to Nyungwe National Park, you will head to a hotel and have lunch. After lunch, you will go ahead with your journey to Nyungwe National Park, and you will arrive at the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will head for a canopy walk at the suspended bridge, and you will have amazing views of Nyungwe Forest. This bridge is approximately 160m long and 70m high. After the canopy walk, you will head to the park headquarters and check into a lodge of your choice. You will have dinner and retire to bed after. This visit is a key part of the Rwanda Hiking Tour, offering an opportunity to explore one of the most scenic and biodiversity-rich rainforests in the region.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and visit to Gisakura tea estate

You will have breakfast in the morning, and you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will then set off for a chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe Forest, and once you see the chimpanzees, you will have only one hour with them, and you will then head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will head for the Gisakura tea estate, and you will meet with the locals who will teach you how they harvest the tea and the tea-making process. You will then head back to the lodge and have dinner, and then retire to bed.

Day 4: Transfer to Akagera National Park for an evening game drive

You will have a transfer to Akagera National Park after breakfast at the lodge in Nyungwe National Park. You will have an en route lunch on your way to Akagera National Park, and then you will, after lunch, proceed with your journey. You will drive to Akagera National Park and stay in a lodge of your preference, and then get ready for an evening game drive. After a briefing at the park headquarters, you will depart for the drive with a ranger guide. This activity can also be combined with a Rwanda Hiking Tour for those who want to discover the park’s scenic landscape on foot. This drive is about 2 to 3 hours and you will have encounters with nocturnal animals like lions, civets, serval cats, hyenas, leopards, and many more. You will then retire to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Morning game drive and a boat cruise

You will conduct an early morning game drive at Akagera National Park after having breakfast and a briefing at the park headquarters. You will be led by a guide who will provide you with information about all the wildlife species that you will come across. You will get the chance to see the animals rising from their habitats, and you will have approximately 5 hours while on this drive. After the drive, you will head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will rest and then head to the park headquarters in the late afternoon for a briefing before you conduct a boat trip at Lake Ihema at 3 pm. You will see a number of water birds and animals while on the drive, and the vegetation around this lake. You will then be transferred to the lodge for dinner and your night’s rest.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will wake up and have breakfast at your own pace at the lodge, and a guide will meet up with you at the lodge and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park. You will have a stopover for lunch at a hotel, and after lunch, you will proceed to Volcanoes National Park. You will decide on an accommodation of your choice and you will check in, have dinner, and retire to bed.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking

On day 7, you will have breakfast before you set off to the park headquarters. You will head to the park headquarters with the guide, and it’s where you will set off from after a briefing with a guide who will lead the way. You will trek about 5 hours in search of the gorillas, and then, after their sighting, you will have an unforgettable hour spent watching them and taking memorable pictures. The trek is an exhilaration of the Rwanda Hiking Tour because it gives you such close contact with nature and wildlife. Based on the adventure, a guide will take you to the lodge for lunch. You will later relax until the evening, when you will eat supper and sleep.

Day 8: Golden monkey trekking and hike to Dian Fossey Tomb

You will have breakfast in the morning, and you will head for a golden monkey trek after a briefing at the park headquarters. You will head for the golden monkey trek with the guide, and once you see them, you will be permitted to stay with them for one hour, and you will afterward return to the lodge for lunch.

After the lunch break, you will have a hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb after a briefing. You will see the tomb where Dian Fossey was buried alongside other gorillas. You will also be taught about the research that is kept at this place about the gorillas, and you will afterward return to the lodge and have a night’s rest after dinner.

Day 9: Hike to Mount Bisoke

You will wake up early in the morning, and you will have breakfast at the lodge. After breakfast, a guide will take you for a briefing at the park headquarters, and then you will head out for a 6-hour hike to Mount Bisoke. The hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke takes approximately 4 hours, but this entirely depends on your level of fitness. You will see numerous attractions when you get to the summit, and then you will descend back to where you set off from, and this will take you about 2 hours. You will be transferred to the lodge and have lunch, and relax. Later on in the evening, you retire to bed after having dinner.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali airport

On the last day of the Rwanda wildlife safari, you will have breakfast at the lodge. After checking out, a guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you back to Kigali airport for your flight, which will include a stopover at Kimironko market.
