This is a 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys safari to Rwanda that will be conducted in one of Rwanda’s national parks. This Rwanda safari takes place in Volcanoes National Park, which is located in the Northwestern region of Rwanda, and this park shelters several primates, including gorillas and golden monkeys. You will be able to see gorillas and golden monkeys during the 4 days gorilla and golden monkey tour. This safari will have other activities like visiting the Rwanda art museum, a visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village and a hike to Dian Fossey Tomb. Volcanoes National Park will enable you to have a great primate watching experience in the 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys safari.

Detailed itinerary for the 4 days of gorillas and golden monkeys
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On the first day of the 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys, you will meet our guide from Chopper Tour and Travel at Kigali Airport in Rwanda. After exchanging greetings, you will talk about the safari and how it is going to be carried out. You will then head for a visit to the Rwanda Art Museum, which is also found in Kigali. This museum has several paintings, sculptures and art pieces that you will be able to see and learn about the history of Rwanda through them. The guide will transfer you to a hotel, and you will have lunch.
The guide will then drive you to Volcanoes National Park, which will take you about 2 to 3 hours to get there. Upon arrival, you will go to the lodge that will be allocated to you and check in. You will relax, and after you will have your dinner served. After dinner, you will retire to bed.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village
On the second day of the 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys, you will be served breakfast at the lodge and after you will be driven from the lodge by a guide to the park headquarters. You will be briefed on how to behave while gorilla trekking and also about the things you are supposed and not supposed to do. You will then be allocated a gorilla family and given a guide to accompany you. You will start a trek that may take about 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. You will come across a number of birds, mammals, primates, plant species and many more as you look for the gorillas. When you get to where they are, you will be able to find out how they breastfeed, play, feed and many more through your observations and also from the information that will be provided to you by the guide. Following the instructions given to you, you will be able to take pictures and videos of these gorillas and after leave with the guide. You will be taken back to the lodge, and you will have lunch.
After lunch, you will have a visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village for a cultural tour. In this village, you will meet and interact with the locals. They will teach you about the culture and traditions of the Rwandese. You will be able to learn how they prepare their local dishes and also see how they perform their cultural dance. After getting information about the Rwandese culture, traditions and lifestyle, the guide will drive you back to the lodge, and you have dinner, and you go to bed and sleep.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and hike to Dian Fossey Tomb
On the third day of the 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys, you will have an early morning breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes National Park, and then the guide will take you to the park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking and how you are supposed to conduct it. You will be allocated a guide, and then you will set off. You will spend only one hour with the golden monkeys after several hours of searching for them. You will take pictures of these playful primates, and then, after, you will take a drive with the guide back to the lodge.
You will have lunch at the lodge, and then you will be picked up by a guide to go for a hike to Dian Fossey Tomb. On your way to Dian Fossey’s Tomb, you will have sights of several wildlife species, and once you get there, you will learn about the mountain gorillas and get to know various things about them. You will be able to see the Tomb of Dian Fossey and other gorillas, including that of Digit. You will return to the lodge for dinner and your night’s rest.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali airport
On the last day of the 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys, you will have an early morning breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes National Park. Once the breakfast is done, you will prepare yourself, check out of the lodge and meet the guide. The guide will then drive you to Kigali Airport, where you will catch your flight.
