Safari description of the 12 Days Spice Of Rwanda Tour

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali Airport, a city tour in Kigali and head to a hotel in Kigali

A guide from Chopper Tour and Travel will pick you up from Kigali Airport and take you on a city tour in Kigali. You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about what transpired during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Afterwards, you will go for lunch at a hotel in Kigali.

After lunch, you will visit the Rwanda Art Museum to set eyes on the beautiful art pieces at this place. You will get back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Visit to Kandt House Museum and transfer to Akagera National Park

You will have an early-morning breakfast after checking out of the hotel. The guide will take you on a visit to the Kandt House Museum. After exploring the Kandt House Museum, you will head to a hotel for lunch

Once you are done with lunch, you will head to Akagera National Park. You will check into a lodge upon arrival, have dinner and retire to bed.

Day 3: Early morning game drive and an afternoon boat cruise at Lake Ihema

You will have breakfast early in the morning, and you will leave the lodge to go and engage in an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park. You will have sightings of animals rising from their habitats. For example, you will spot lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes and many more. You will head back to the lodge after the morning game drive. You will relax in the afternoon.

After lunch, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. The boat cruise will last for 1 to 2 hours. You will spot hippos, crocodiles and many more. You will head back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Breakfast will be served to you in the morning, and after breakfast, you will check out of the lodge. You will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park, where you will have lunch, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking

You will have breakfast at the lodge, and then you will be given a packed lunch at the lodge. After briefing at the park headquarters, you will go for Rwanda gorilla trekking, which will take about 30 minutes to 7 hours to spot the gorillas. After spotting them, you will have one hour with them, and then you get back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking and visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village

You will have breakfast at the lodge, and after that, you will go for the golden monkey trek. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger guide, and you will take about 2 to 4 hours to find the golden monkeys. You will spend one hour with them in their natural habitat, and you will head back to the lodge after observing them. You will have lunch at the lodge, and after relaxing, you will visit Iby’iwacu cultural village.

At Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, you will learn about the culture and traditions of the Rwandese from the local guides that you will meet there. You will head back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Hike to Mount Bisoke

You will have breakfast at the lodge and then head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will start the hike to Mount Bisoke. You will take about 4 hours to get to the summit, depending on your level of fitness, and you will take about 2 hours to descend.

You will have views of the neighbouring volcanic mountains, and then you will get back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will rest at the lodge, have dinner in the evening, and retire to bed.

Day 8: Hike to Dian Fossey Tomb and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After having breakfast in the morning, you will leave the lodge and go for a hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. You will be able to see the Tomb of Dian Fossey and the grave of her beloved primate Digit. You will also see a number of attractions while on the hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. You will head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will check out of the lodge, and the guide will transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will check into a lodge at Nyungwe National Park upon arrival, and you will shower, have dinner and retire to bed.

Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk

After having breakfast, you will go for a chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe Forest. You will first be briefed, and then you will go for chimpanzee trekking with a guide. You will search for the chimpanzees for approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours. After finding them, you will spend 1 hour with them, and then you get back to the lodge.

After having lunch at the lodge, you will head to the suspended bridge for a canopy walk. You will spend about 2 hours while conducting the canopy walk, and you will get back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Early in the morning, you will be served breakfast, and after breakfast, you will check out of the lodge. You will start the drive to Lake Kivu. You will check into a hotel upon arrival. You will have lunch at the hotel, and after that, you will relax at the hotel or go for an optional boat cruise on Lake Kivu. You will have dinner in the evening, and you will retire to bed.

Day 11: Visit to Nyamirundi Island

You will have breakfast early in the morning and then leave the lodge with a guide. You will head to Nyamirundi Island for a coffee tour. You will meet with the locals on this island who will take you through the coffee-making process. After learning all that from them, you will head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, and you get to explore several islands and then get back to the lodge. You will have dinner at the lodge, and then you will retire to bed.

Day 12: Transfer back to Kigali

You will be served breakfast at the lodge on the last day of the safari. You will check out, and the guide will drive you to Kigali Airport, marking the end of the 12 days spice of Rwanda Tour.
