3 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari

The 3 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari is an exciting Rwanda safari adventure taking place in Akagera National Park, one of the top wildlife destinations in Rwanda. This safari provides an awesome opportunity to see the Big Five (the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) as well as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and many antelope species. There is also an exciting boat ride on Lake Ihema, where visitors may observe crocodiles and hippos, and numerous bird species in their natural habitat.

The safari includes a visit to Musanze Caves, where you can walk through the historical underground formations and learn about the local folklore. On the last day of the safari, you will take part in the culture aspect, by visiting Kimironko Market in Kigali, where you may shop for crafts, souvenirs, and local produce, before being transferred back to your hotel in the city.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from a hotel in Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park

On the first day of the 3 days Akagera wildlife safari, a guide from Chopper Tour and Travel will pick you up from a hotel in Kigali, and then you will start the 3 days Akagera wildlife safari after going through the itinerary. You will have a visit to Musanze caves, where you will be able to see several bats that live there. These bats will be seen hanging in the caves. You will continue to explore the caves as the guide gives you information about your sightings and observations. You will take approximately 2 hours while at these caves. These caves were a shelter to the refugees after the 1994 Rwanda genocide and also served as a place for crowning kings during the ancient days. After exploring the caves, you will head to Akagera National Park. You will check into a lodge and then have lunch.

You will then settle at the lodge. In the late afternoon, there will be an optional bird watching and later in the evening, you will have your dinner meal. You will head to bed and have your night’s rest.

Day 2: Morning game drive and an afternoon boat cruise

On the second day of the 3 days Akagera wildlife safari, you will wake up very early in the morning and have breakfast. After breakfast, you will be taken to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will receive the guidelines to abide by while on a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. You will then head for a morning game drive with a guide. The game drive will take about 3 to 4 hours. You will have an experience of the animals rising from their natural habitats in the morning. You will be able to spot a variety of them since this is the time of the day when the animals are very active. You will have the chance to spot all the big five animals since Akagera National Park shelters all of them. You will also spot other animals apart from the big five and several bird species. The guide will then transfer you back to the lodge, and you relax. You will then be served lunch.

The guide will pick you up from the lodge, and then you will head for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. You will have the opportunity to see the aquatic animals at this lake and also have sights at several bird species. You will see water animals like the hippos and crocodiles. The boat cruise at Lake Ihema will take approximately 2 hours, and then the guide will transfer you back to the lodge. You will relax and then be served dinner in the evening be served dinner. You will then retire to bed.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali

On the last day of the 3 days Akagera wildlife safari, at the lodge in Akagera National Park, you will be served breakfast. After breakfast, you will leave the lodge, and the guide will transfer you back to Kigali. You will have a stopover at Kimironko market, where you will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs and also have a look at how business is conducted at this market. The guide will then transfer you back to the hotel where you met on day 1 of the safari.
