This is a 3 days Rwanda gorilla safari exposing you to the mountain gorillas found in Volcanoes National Park. This Rwanda safari will enable you to spend time with the gorillas and also visit other places in Rwanda, that is to say, Kigali genocide memorial, Kimironko market, Iby’iwacu cultural village and Musanze caves.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On day 1 of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla safari, upon arrival at Kigali Airport, you will be received by a representative guide from Chopper Tour and Travel. You will exchange greetings and then start with a city tour in Kigali. You will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, where you will meet the guides who will take you through what happened during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will see the remains of the participants of the 1994 Rwanda genocide that are kept at this memorial ground. This place was put in place in respect of those who lost their lives in the genocide.

You will head for lunch at a hotel in Kigali after the visit to the Kigali genocide memorial. After lunch, you will have a visit to Kimironko market. You will meet with the locals conducting business in this market, and you will be able to see the various items sold in this market. You will be able to buy those of your interest, and then you will embark on the journey to Volcanoes National Park. The journey to Volcanoes National Park will take about 2 hours, and you will arrive, check into a hotel and have dinner. After dinner, you will retire to bed.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village

On day 2 of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla safari, you will have an early morning breakfast, and then the guide will take you to the park headquarters for a briefing. After a briefing about the Rwanda gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, you will be allocated a Rwanda gorilla family to trek and be accompanied by an armed ranger guide. You will then start the trek, taking about 30 minutes to 7 hours to find the gorillas. The time you take depends on their location. You will spend one hour with the gorillas after spotting them. You will observe the way they play, feed and much more. You will be permitted to take pictures and videos of these primates. You will then return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch at the lodge, you will relax and then head to Iby’iwacu cultural village with the guide. At this place, you will learn more about the culture and traditions of the Rwandese. You will meet the locals at this place who will teach you the way they prepare their local dishes, they will entertain you through their traditional dances, and you will have a tour around their community. You will then be taken back to the lodge. You will have dinner and then you will go to bed.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali airport

On day 3 of the 3 days Rwanda gorilla safari, you will have breakfast early in the morning, and then you will check out of the lodge. The guide will drive you back to Kigali airport. You will first visit Musanze caves, where you will explore the nature and the beauty of these caves. This will take about two hours, and you will see several bats hanging in these caves. You will be told about the history of the caves by the guides. These caves were once used as coronation grounds for the kings of Rwanda. They also served as shelter to the refugees after the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

You will proceed to Kigali and have lunch at a hotel. You will then proceed to Kigali airport to catch your flight.
