The 6 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari is an amazing primate and wildlife safari that will take you to Kibale Forest National Park, also known as the primate capital, and Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will be able to spot different animals like buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, lions, leopards, waterbucks, warthogs, topi, hippos, and hyenas, among others, during the game drives and boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This Uganda safari will also take you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is known for harbouring the highest number of mountain gorillas, which are found in four sectors, namely the Rushaga sector in the south, the Ruhija sector in the east, the Nkuringo sector in the south and the Buhoma sector in the north.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

You will be welcomed by our driver guide from your hotel in Entebbe or Entebbe International Airport to start the safari to Kibale Forest National Park. On the way, you will enjoy beautiful scenery with a stopover for an en-route lunch, whereafter you will proceed to Kibale Forest National Park. Upon arrival, you will connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kanyachu Park headquarters for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest with an experienced park guide. Trekking of chimpanzees takes about 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending on where the chimpanzees are located. During trekking, you will be able to spot other primate species and birds, among others, and once they are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat. After chimpanzee trekking, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which takes about a 2-3 hour drive. Upon arrival, you will go for a short evening game drive in the park, where you will be able to view animals like elephants, buffalo, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, lions, leopards, and bushbucks, among others. After the game drive, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive/lion tracking experience and afternoon boat cruise

After breakfast, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to transfer to Kasenyi Plains for a morning game drive, where you will be able to spot different animals like lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas, waterbucks, warthogs, and bushbucks, among others. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for an amazing boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a water channel that connects Lake Edward and Lake George.  During the scheduled boat cruise, which starts at around 2:00 pm, you will be able to spot large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in the water and view animals along the shores and water birds like cormorants, kingfishers, bee-eaters, and fish eagles, among others. After the boat cruise, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On the way, you will have a stopover in the Ishasha sector, where you will be able to view the tree-climbing lions lying in acacia/fig tree branches during the game drive. You will also have lunch en route and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and upon arrival, you will connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience

After an early breakfast, you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will be divided into groups of 8 people, where each group will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek. Gorilla trekking takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on where the mountain gorillas are located, and during trekking, you will be able to view other wildlife species. Once the gorillas are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat, which gives you a chance to watch them feeding, breastfeeding, playing, resting, grooming young ones, and learning more about their behaviours and characters, and to take photos and record videos.

After an encounter with the mountain gorillas, you will trek back to the starting point, where you will be given a certificate for participating in the gorilla trekking experience, and later meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe

You will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey back to Kampala. You will have a stopover in Mbarara for an en-route lunch and another stopover at the Equator, where you will buy souvenirs and take photos. From the Equator, you will proceed to Kampala, arriving early evening, and upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight or drop you off at any place of advice depending on your schedule, which brings you to the end of the 6 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari.
